In real life, Tama is a stray cat who was adopted and hired as the stationmaster and operating officer of Kishi Station on the Kishigawa Line in Wakayama prefecture, Japan. She became well-adored by the station's customers and gained fame in Japanese media and pop culture. After her death in June 2015 (five months prior to her appearance in the manga[1]), she was enshrined and deified.[2]
Synopsis[]
Heaven Arc[]
Tama is first introduced at Kamuhakari, as the winner of the "rookie of the year" award. During his introduction of her, Ookuninushi describes her as a selfless provider who has recently risen to fame. Yato wrongly assumes this speech is about him, and is silent with disappointment when he realizes that it isn't.
Ookuninushi goes on to describe her job ensuring the safety and prosperity of the nation's railways. Meanwhile, Tama stretches herself out while gods and shinki in the background look at her with adoration. Yukine and Hiyori are shown, tearful, in the next panel: Hiyori agreeing with the choice of winner, and Yukine lamenting that Tama wasn't able to live longer than she did.[3]
