Short Summary[]
Through their repeat client Sera-san, Yato and Yukine inadvertently meet up with Hiyori at her family home. Grandmother Iki fears a black figure approaching the house from the bottom of the hill, and Tsuguha continues to have recurring dream of a falling black figure.
Extended Summary[]
Tsuguha awakens from the same dream again, where a black figure falls from the sky, and wonders whether knowing everything would truly be a good thing.
In the city, Yato complains that he and Yukine out of travel money, and insists again that they can't return to Hiyori until he has become a god of happiness. They're interrupted when they receive a phonecall from Kai'i Sera, who they are very excited to hear from as he's now a repeat caller. Yato immediately teleports them to Sera's location, but are shocked to find him sitting on the toilet. He'd called to ask them to bring him a roll of toilet paper.
After fixing himself, Masaomi apologizes that they had to see him that way and invites them for tea. He begins to lead them to another room, explaining that this is his grandmother's house, but they encounter Hiyori while she is cleaning in the hallway. Yato demands to know what she's doing here, to which Hiyori retorts that she should be asking what Yato and Yukine are doing with her older brother. Her brother– Sera– then interrupts, demanding to know why Yato knows his sister as well as his annual salary.
The scene then cuts to the four of them having tea. Hiyori formally introduces her older brother, Sera, as Masaomi Iki. Masaomi explains to Hiyori that he knows Yato because he helped him out the other day; when Masaomi directs the question to her, Hiyori simply says that they're friends with no additional explanation. They move on to explain that Masaomi is staying here because he's working as a personal doctor taking care of their grandmother. Hiyori explains that she's not extremely sick, but she has had a hard time letting anyone else touch her.
While Masaomi and Hiyori chat with their grandmother about tea and the house, Yato and Yukine watch on from the corridor, peeking through a gap in the sliding door. However, Grandmother Iki notices them and halts the conversation, horrified at what Hiyori "brought with her" to the house. She crosses the room to retrieve a bow and arrow, and immediately fires a shot through the crack in the door, yelling that she would not allow them to touch her family and insisting that they– or that "black thing"– take her instead. Hiyori tries to calm her down by assuring her that Yato and Yukine aren't dangerous, and she and Masaomi both confirm for their grandmother that they are able to see the two in the hallway.
After calming down, Grandmother Iki explains that Sayuri also had a sense for the Far Shore, although she isn't able to actually see them. She is unhappy with the fact that they are able to see things she doesn't want to see, and believes the family to be cursed to attract bad things because of it. She even blames herself for what happened at Iki General Hospital, thinking she must have unwittingly summoned something that followed her back to the house from the cemetery. Recently, she has seen a tall, black figure at the bottom of the hill that comes closer and closer every day. Notably, Yato looks shocked to hear this, and goes outside to confirm the sight for himself. Yukine follows him out, and Yato tells him that he knows what the black figure is, although just knowing would not help the situation at all. He decides he needs to tell Hiyori.
Back in Takama-ga-hara, Tsuguha awakens from the same dream again, this time while she is outside with Bishamonten. She tells Bishamon that she keeps seeing a black figure falling on her, getting closer and closer. Their conversation is interrupted by Aiha, who greets them cheerily and joins them sitting underneath the tree. She shows Bishamon that her legs are healing well, and reassures her that she and the other shinki will always be there to help if Bishamon needs to come to them for anything. Bishamon smiles and promises she will, but internally acknowledges that she is forcing a smile and repeating mistakes– she knows what she must do for Tsuguha, but can't.
At Grandmother Iki's house, the black figure suddenly appears in her bedroom. She raises a hand to defend herself, but Yukine stops her by taking her wrist for a moment. She acknowledges that even though he touched her, it didn't feel like anything unpleasant, and asks if he is a messenger of the gods. Yukine reacts with shock, and she tells him that it will only bring trouble his way if he makes it so obvious how new he is, citing Yato as an example. However, she concedes that Yato will probably not cause too much mischief as long as Yukine is around, much to Yukine's amusement.
Yukine then tells her that he is a messenger who serves a god of happiness, and that his god says the black thing is not evil. He promises that he will be with her, that they will protect her grandchildren, and that by the time she wakes up from her rest, everything scary to her will have gone away.
While she is sleeping, Hiyori and Masaomi go down the hill to find the black figure. They recall Yato's explanation that it is "something like a grim reaper" that would guide their grandmother's soul to the afterlife; it's here because it is almost her time to go. When Hiyori asks if there's nothing they can do, Yato tells her that there is.
Grandmother Iki later wakes up to find the rest of the Iki family, including Sayuri and Takamasa, downstairs. At the childrens' insistence, they are all moving in with her. Hiyori later thanks Yato for explaining the situation and suggesting that they spend more time with her; this way, they could at least help assuage their grandmother's fears. Yato turns away, claiming that he didn't do anything but bring her misfortune. However, Hiyori rejects this, claiming that he has been a god of happiness to her for a long time already. She internally resolves to tell him again and again until he finally understands this.
The scene then cuts to Tsuguha's dream, revealing that the black figure was actually that of a man falling from scaffolding on a rooftop.
